T is For Tatay
What is Tatay?
Tatay is father in Tagalog, my native language
Tagalog was the language I spoke at a young age
Tatay, my father, passed away last Wednesday
It was sudden, we were all shocked that day
Although he was 80, he was never hospitalized
So when he passed away, we were quite surprised
Two days in the hospital, and then he passed
Perhaps his smiles for years were just disguised?
Looking back . . .
My dear tatay taught me how to add (+)
Also--subtract, multiply, divide--I was bad
He used to get irritated, oh well, too bad
But beneath my pouts, I was so glad
He was spending time with me, no siblings, just me
I craved his attention, I was number three
There was five of us, can't you see?
So it was rare we had time, just for him and me
Now that he is gone
I will miss my Tatay even more
