Vision Dream Board

dream board

I say, "Fake it till I make it"
My vision is dreamy, I admit
Will I be able to submit
Can I perform and commit?

I will do it, not just try
Little by little, I'll get by
I will be strong and won't cry
I will get help from up high

My dream board is pure, I am sure
Am I strong enough or mature?
I have my doubts and feel unsure
But each day I smile, and say, "Bonjour"

Join us in ABC Wednesday.
The letter this week is V.

Yellow, Spirit, and Yoga

Quote on spirit, yellow flowers meme

We. started the day with frappuccino
To bribe my daughter, to get up and go
For if I didn't,  she'd get up late
I was inpatient, I could not wait

I took her to my favorite restaurant
To have a brunch and save us lunch
And then we shopped until we dropped
Back home we went, and had a chat

"Let's do some yoga," she suddenly asked
I was surprised that she have asked
For a long time I offered and she just laughed
Now she was the one preparing the mats

Step by step we posed together
Following the video in the computer
That sure felt good to pose with her
It lightened our spirits and pain right after

Happiness Flowers Bring

Pink flowers
Red flowers on the counter give me something nice to look at when washing dishes.

Flowers can bring happiness
And symbolize some sweetness
They can ease the loneliness
And fill some emptiness

They don't have to be given
By somebody to you
I often times buy one or two-
Bouquets to change my view

In the middle of my messy rooms
Little Things ThursdayI display these cut of blooms
And sometimes I play music
Then dance with catchy tunes

My teens are not back home yet but in the facilities they stay. Oh how I miss them but I know they are in the place where they get help. Today, though, I get to take my daughter out on a pass. She started filling out applications to some contacts she met in the teen job fair last Saturday. I wish she gets a summer job to keep her restless-16-year-old-brain busy.

Prom Night

dad photo with food, prom night scare
Paul is as sweet as he loves food.
He can be a very protective father though.

Last night was Paul's daughter's prom night. She had eight female friends in the house getting ready for the prom. I decided to help Paul get the girls ready as he seemed nervous what to do. The least I could do was bring finger foods so they could snack while getting ready.

"It's a good thing you're here," he said.

We helped one girl with her corset dress. I know he would have been uncomfortable doing this on his own and the task requires four strong hands anyway.

One of the girls' boyfriend was coming over for pick up. Paul joked about not having a gun.

"It would have been perfect to greet the boy with a shotgun," he said.

I suggested he can sit on the patio as the boy arrived while sharpening his big chef knife. It won't be classic but just as good.

Anyway, the boy arrived, all looking handsome with his tux. Paul set him aside and sent all the girls back upstairs. He proceeded to ask a few questions. The boy's answers did not match the questions and the poor boy was turning red.

Didn't this boy hear about the classic tale?

Paul broke into smile and said, “you're OK.” Obviously, this boy does not know Paul. Paul is only dangerous with food.

Some of the girls slept over after the prom. They were all just laughing about it.

Planting Seeds

yellow flower in winter
This daffodil-looking yellow flowers comes back year after year before spring time.
The lily is reliable, low-maintenance, and worry free very much unlike teens. :)

Children are like seeds you plant in the beginning
You care for them, shower them, feed them
They grow in heights have branches and stems
But some weeds appear, you can condemn

Children grow like trees and develop roots
The roots can get deep enough, you'll have disputes
Your teens rather be with these weed friends
They spend their hours with undesirable moods

You look back and think what have you done
Your teens break rules, what happened, how come?
Far from perfection, but you've tried so hard
To keep them safe, responsible, not bad

Other adults tell you this things shall pass
It is just a phase, soon it'll be the past
But three years' too long, it seems lifelong
You just bow your head and try to be strong

Snow Not Quake

It's seven, it's eight, it's nine, it's ten thirty . . .
My Fitbit watch's time changed but I'm no hurry
There is a winter storm warning since early this morning
It was hard to get up, I was still yawning

Every week my daughter gets her overnight pass
From the treatment facility where she is at
She phoned just now, “are you coming to get me"
I said, it's snowing bad outside, I can't, I'm sorry.

“Okay,” she said and then hang up
I could not say bye, she heard enough
She is upset, I will make it up
Today, instead, I can catch up

I can sing, play with dogs, cooked a one-pot meal
Take my time to do, enjoy, and feel
The pleasure of being alone doing what I like
Without feeling bothered by my worrying psyche

You may have guessed my teens are away
Once again they had wandered and come astray
Both are in youth services now where they can't run
To places where they may do self harm

I get a break, a should rejoice
I should not cry, I have a choice
To be thankful that we are at least safe
We are still lucky, and not harmed by earth quake

And here is what I made today.

This tastes so good--one pot tender chicken meal.

Thank you Lord. Please guide the people in Japan affected by earthquake and aftershocks.

Easter Pieces

Piece by piece, we put together
Little fun we had together
Picking flowers to shower
Our love for blooms this spring weather

Easter egg dying
Eating cake with icing
Laughing and smiling
Instead of fighting

Sharing Peeps, those yellow chicks
So soft, so sweet, with sugar bits
I am so happy, aside from sweets
I shared this day with my two teens

K is For Kickboxing

Kickboxing at home

I got this punching bag for my teens in hopes that it will stop them from making punching bags out of our walls. I rather them punch this and not hurt their hands and our wallets for fixing the wall. It turns out, I am using it too. Look at me kick!

Oh yeah, both my teen girl and boy love this.

Sweet Cake, Daisies, Flowers

ttot, ten things of thankful, gratitude blog
I am thankful for the Daisy award nomination I received from work by two family members of patients I took care of. It still amazes me that some people can take time to fill out the form on a very stressful time their loved ones are in critical care.
I am thankful for the relaxing bath that I can take every once in a great while. Talk about a mini-vacation spa for twenty minutes or so.
I am thankful for relaxing walks. The earth is beautiful.
I am thankful for the flowers I strategically place in my messy kitchen. At least I have something pretty to look at. :)
I am thankful for paper decor. I can quickly patch up some imperfections on the walls before a visitor comes.

I am thankful for my son who willingly did the steam cleaning for the whole house. I paid him with a whole year's supply of contact lenses. We are both happy in the end. Velvet seems to be satisfied too as she supervises his work.

I am happy for my backyard as an emergency jogging place when I don't have time to go to the park. A breath of outside air can fool my body that I am out exercising. So refreshing.

I am thankful for neighbor's animals. I don't have to take Velvet to the zoo to watch other animals.

I am thankful for Paul with his good taste in food. This night was Korean barbecue night.

I am thankful for my son for sharing my birthday cupcake with me. It is our favorite Tres Leches. Last year, both of my children were on a run on my birthday. So this year is special. I know where they are.

What are you thankful for this week?

Valentine's Day Morning

This treat awaits for me on my oncology follow up appointment.

Valentine's Day Morn

She forced herself to leave her warm bed
Her body was heavy, the sleepy head
It is Valentine's Day, the day of red
It is also Sunday, to church she headed

She went alone, to the church nearby
Seating on the back and watching the crowd
Most people wore black, some gray, some not
But what she noticed was the color of love

Red tops, red skirts, red pants, and red shirts
Red shoes for little ones, red sweater for the old ones
They made her smile, the scene with the moms
Their daughters, their spouses, and their little sons

It is Valentine's Day
The day of love
The priest ended with the message
Love the God above

It is yet, another hard week. I had to force myself to go to church, let alone to write on my blog. My brain said, I need to do this. So here, I am, and here is my Gratitude List

1. My daughter is getting the treatment that she needs: not from the legal system but from her treatment team of professionals who also works with me to help me help her. One medicine she started on is exactly the same as mine. I just love medicine when it works. She feels herself again and refrained from crying.
2. Velvet and Snowball who keep me company while my teens are away.
3. My son for his hugs when I visited him.
4. The friendly staff at Children's Hospital. Even the guard who stamps my parking permit is very accommodating.
5. My journal that I write on daily. It never complains and it is always there to take whatever I pour from my mind.
6. My primary care doctor for pushing me to exercise. Thirty minutes to one hour of jogging and walking still give me this euphoria despite the other things  going on in my life.
7. Sunday mass that gives me hope. And then, Jehovah's Witness came knocking on my door handing me reading materials to read. They will come back some other time, they said. Hmm. I felt too good to turn them away so I just said, okay.
8. Macadamia chocolates from Paul. There must be a hidden ingredient that makes me want to eat more than one piece, or two, or three . . .
9. Days off so I can take care or my daughter's situation.
10. Another clean bill of health from my oncology doctor. No trace of cancer!

Daughter

The letter for this week is the letter D
I thought I'd write about my daughter
My sweet pea

She wrote me this letter
My remorseful and sweet daughter
It gave me reason to believe her
And not give up on her

My friends told me to give up
And just let social services pick up
They said I had enough
Of my daughter's messing up

But I am  still very hopeful
As long as daughter's being truthful
With help we can pick up the pieces
Till this bad nightmare ceases

ABC Wednesday, gratitude blog

The Visit in the Snowstorm

Flowers to lift my spirit
On, an otherwise, lonely day
The sadness, I had to bear it
On this cold and snowy day

I brave myself to visit
My teens in juvenile hall
I pass an accident and traffic
It is worth it after all

I visit them together
In one room we share and laugh
In this cold and ugly weather
Our togetherness is enough

Ironic, we have quality time
In this small room where we're timed
One hour we're allowed to visit
It's precious and seem just fine

There is Beauty in the Cold

1
Another year, another beginning
I started the year with forgiving
forgetting, starting over, and thanksgiving

2
There is beauty in the cold
The frozen pond
However rigid, I'm not fond

3
When it's cold, we stay indoors
In this gym, my daughter soars
Jumping to hit that volleyball
She's short, not tall
But, up high, she can reach that ball

4
Home cooked meal
Adds some heat in the house
And with some help of a cookbook
I could whipped up a course
That is so good, of course

5
What is as good as a flower bouquet
But an edible fruit bouquet
It sure brightens our day
With its delicious and refreshing way
In the hospital we enjoyed yesterday

6
Back with the cold
And frost on my windshield
Thank goodness for heat
Even with no heated seat

7
I went to Sprouts on grand opening day
I did not mind the delay
On that busy Wednesday
For I won a $25-worth of products
After spending only 10-bucks

8
Beyond the images and all
There are some things I am thankful for
After my son declared a war from me last fall
He did not live with me for five long weeks
He is finally captured and in juvenile hall
And now that he's there
He'd at least give me a call

9
I am also thankful that my other teen
My daughter who's sixteen
Was safe after disappearing one night
She is quite alright

10
The circumstances are never perfect
I can say my parenting life is a wreck
But I can also say, what the heck
We had a bad day
Tomorrow is another beginning
I can feel better meditating, praying, and hoping.

May God give me more guidance and patience.

Stressful Driving 2

poem, teen driving
Writing inspiration from Magpie Tales

Long dark hair with waves done with curling iron
Hair flowing like the waves that looks so beautiful
Her crown is gorgeous it's much like an attire
Covering her slender frame, so small and youthful

Just a few minutes ago her young cheeks were covered with tears
I, the mean mom, screamed at her, not cheer
See, she insisted to drive going home from her game
The drive was an hour long to our home from her ballgame

She was driving too fast on a sharp turn at exit
Perilously close to the cliff, I thought we wouldn't make it
She also drifted to the side on to the right lane without notice
It was not just one occasion, but twice she did “it.”

“What are you doing?! Oh my God.” I panicked, I got frantic
She answered she was sorry, she was daydreaming, she didn't mean it
“I sure hope so, my God, you can't drive this erratic.”
Now I think it may be serious, should I get problematic?

This is not a typical day between me and daughter.
In our first month of driving lesson, she is usually better
Most of the time, she is focused and stayed in the center
Not going over the lane, regardless of weather

 Could she have Attention-deficit disorder?
What on earth is wrong with her?
I should take her to her primary care provider.
Because I'm truly worried about her

(By the way, this is not a real picture of my daughter. If anything, my daughter's only similarity to this lady's image is the hair. My daughter is only sixteen not 26-ish).

Stressful Riding

funny blog, parenting teen, teen driving
We are approaching the second hour of driving instruction of my daughter. She just turned 16 with a new driver's permit. She passed my parking lot driving and parking test, so on to the road we started.

The on-the-road driving is not going as smoothly as when we were in an empty parking lot. Today, she almost entered a one-way street going the wrong direction, and then she almost entered the left lane while looking at the right ride supposedly to make a right-lane change.

I did not yell. I was trying so hard to be a good mom-driving-instructor but I could not help it as I let out a hopeless cry.

Hu hu hu . . . ! “

We missed being killed on what-could-have been collisions. Okay, I am exaggerating but my heart was racing. My shoulder muscles were tensing. And I felt that I was not allowed to blink, for if I do, I am sure something will happen and it will not be good.

Why is everybody speeding?” She was driving on the speed limit of 55 on highway 6.

Oh, that's the bike lane they were saying in the manual.”

Funny those or not new things and she was just realizing.

funny blog, teen drivingBut I realized, myself, that instructing my teen how to drive is very stressful. I need to do more meditation, but not while she is driving of course (when I am not supposed to not blink, wink, or breathe).

It is only January, our first month of instruction. I hope I make it to the end of the year holding my breath.

Happy (and safe) 2016 to you (and my family).

December Thankfuls

1. I am thankful for eggnog pancake. I made it from scratch from the idea of I-am-out -of-eggs but eggnog I have! It turned out yummy and ultra soft, a nice breakfast this Saturday morning. Get the recipe here. Mine turned out fine minus added sugar and baking powder.

2. I am thankful for holiday cookies. They are a joy to look at. I did not buy any because I think $2.99 each cookie is too much for my wallet.
3. I did buy a cherry birthday cake from this specialty bakery. My daughter picked it for herself and the staff gladly customized it for her right that instant.

4. I thank my daughter for liking the card I hand made or her. She liked the poem, especially.
5. I thank the rhyming dictionary online. It is much easier to use it than flipping pages on rhyming book. :)

6. I am thankful for an easy Christmas decor as I do not have the mood to put up a tree. Here is the only tree up in my house. It is right on the dining table.
7. I am thankful for the holiday spirit co-workers and patients' families bring to the hospital. At least, I feel the spirit there.
8. I am thankful my daughter stayed home has not run away since November.
9. I am thankful my son still cared about his grade and showed up in school the day of finals. I hope he goes home but he said he does not want to yet. "Maybe on Monday," he would. He looks normal and happy though. Unfortunately, he is bigger than me and I just cannot pick him up and load him in the van to take home. The authorities are not helpful, unfortunately. Long story.
10. I am thankful I have not given up on my teens.

There is hope.
