Junk Mail

Sunday, December 06, 2015 4 Comments A + a -

I am not a fan of junk mail from the mailbox—those pre-approved credit card applications (that is not really pre-approved), to refinancing, and other junks like that. I would rather receive e-mails, then, I can choose to unsubscribe with an easy-press of a button. In addition to not wasting my time in the future, e-mail saves (and does not kill) trees.

So needless to say, I hardly open suspicious junk mail. I can tell which one is or isn't just by looking at the envelope.

But not this one.

You see, my cousin from California is getting married next year. So when I saw this white envelope bearing a cursive name,  with seemed-to-be a card-stock enclosure, I opened it. Hmm, silver card . . .

Guess what? It's a formal . . .

Sneaky marketing tactics to get you to open their unsolicited advertising. I'm with you. I hate junk mail too. Even the junk emails aren't always easy to get rid of. I've unsubscribed to lots of them and they keep coming. Sometimes I have to unsubscribe several times before they actually stop

I know, the junk mail thing is crazy. I get them from a car dealership that actually put the VIN number of my car on the envelope. I started a petition at the White House so everyone that sends addressed mail out must provide an opt out phone or email on the piece itself. Have a look, it needs signatures.
